About OrthoLegal QME Management in California

Who we are

OrthoLegal was founded by Orthopaedic Surgeon and QME Alexis E. Dixon, MD. The aim is to provide services to facilitate medicolegal practices for Orthopaedic Surgeons in California. A busy Orthopaedic practice does not allow for the time and effort needed to comply with the state-enforced requirements for work as a QME. Nevertheless, there is a significant need for QMEs in California to help settle disputes between injured workers and their employers.

The vast majority of work-related injuries in California involve the musculoskeletal system. OrthoLegal are the experts on musculoskeletal evaluations, including General Orthopaedics, Spine, and Hand.

FOUNDER

Alexis E. Dixon, MD, CEO

OrthoLegal was founded by Orthopaedic Surgeon and QME Alexis E. Dixon, MD. She became a QME in 2018 and quickly enjoyed the challenging and fulfilling work. However, given the nature of working with State of California regulations, the work can be overwhelming without support staff experienced in the work flow. She developed a pattern of work that allows for efficient evaluations and report-writing, with organization largely offloaded from the physicians. Dr. Dixon appreciates the constraints on an Orthopaedic Surgeon’s time, who runs a busy clinical practice divided between the office and the operating room. She also has noted the decline in reimbursement rates for clinical practice alone, requiring many physicians to supplement their income with nonclinical work.

QME work has allowed Dr. Dixon to pursue interest outside of her Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle practice in Marina del Rey, where she consults for the Las Vegas Raiders, America’s Cup Sailing, and Red Bull North America. She has recently begun to fly sailplanes, and has recently picked up tennis. She spends a lot of time enjoying the Marina on the water sailing and stand-up paddleboarding. She was an art major and is an avid reader and appreciator of the arts.
