Dr. Abimbola A. Afolabi is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in spine surgery and general orthopaedic trauma. With over a decade of experience in both clinical and academic settings, Dr. Afolabi is dedicated to improving patient care through advanced surgical techniques, education, and research. She currently serves as an Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Orlando VA Medical Center and holds an academic appointment as an Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine.

Dr. Afolabi’s medical journey began with her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School (now Rutgers), where she was recognized for her academic excellence and graduated in the top quintile of her class. She further honed her surgical skills through an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the prestigious University of Maryland/Adams Crowley Shock Trauma Center and completed a highly competitive Spine Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery, affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College.

Dr. Afolabi’s clinical expertise spans spine surgery, primary total joint reconstruction, and general orthopaedic trauma, with specialized training in complex spine deformities at the Foundation of Orthopaedics & Complex Spine (FOCOS) in Ghana. She has served in various leadership roles, including as Acting Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Orlando VA Medical Center, where she also advocates for diversity and inclusion within the department.

A passionate educator, Dr. Afolabi has contributed significantly to medical education, serving as an Assistant Professor at institutions including Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her dedication to teaching earned her the 2023 UCF Teaching Award for her outstanding contributions to the College of Medicine Anatomy Lab.
