Jervis Yau, MD

Dr. Jervis Yau is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist practicing in Santa Barbara, California. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries and orthopedic conditions involving the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, and ankle, with particular expertise in minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques, joint preservation, and cartilage restoration procedures.

A native Californian, Dr. Yau earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience, graduating cum laude from the University of California, San Diego. He subsequently received his Doctor of Medicine degree from New York Medical College, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in recognition of his academic excellence and leadership. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Yale New Haven Hospital and Yale University School of Medicine before pursuing advanced fellowship training in Sports Medicine at Sports Orthopedic and Rehabilitation (SOAR) in Redwood City, California.

Dr. Yau has established himself as a respected leader within the orthopedic community. He currently serves as Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and is a member of the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee. Throughout his tenure, he has played an active role in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, clinical documentation, and orthopedic program development across the Cottage Health system.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Yau has extensive experience caring for athletes at every level of competition. Since 2013, he has served as Team Physician for the University of California, Santa Barbara, Westmont College, Santa Barbara High School, Bishop Diego High School, and Cate School. During his fellowship training, he served as a team physician for the San Francisco Giants, San Francisco Bulls Hockey, Santa Clara University, and several collegiate athletic programs.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Arthroscopy Association of North America, Dr. Yau is also a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, and Yale Orthopaedic Association. His commitment to clinical excellence, patient-centered care, and advancing orthopedic medicine has made him a trusted resource for athletes, active individuals, and patients throughout California.
