Dr. Mark A. Charney is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with over 30 years of experience in the field, specializing in hip and knee surgery. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1985, followed by comprehensive training in both general surgery at the University of California, San Francisco and orthopaedic surgery at the University of Cincinnati Hospitals.
Dr. Charney’s clinical expertise includes advanced techniques in hip and knee arthroplasty, with a focus on improving patient outcomes through innovative approaches such as the direct anterior approach for total hip replacement. He has been recognized for his commitment to improving quality and efficiency in healthcare, particularly through his leadership roles at Kaiser Permanente and Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System. He has also contributed to the field through various research publications, including studies on dislocation rates and complication risks in hip replacement surgeries, as well as articles published in respected journals like the Journal of Arthroplasty.
Throughout his career, Dr. Charney has held prominent positions, including serving as the Chief of the Vallejo Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Department Technology Lead for the Napa Solano Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is also deeply involved in the academic community, having been a clinical preceptor for physician assistant students at Touro University and UC Davis, and serving as an adjunct assistant clinical professor at Touro University’s joint Physician Assistant Studies/Master of Public Health Program.
