Dr. Steven C. Bast is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with over 25 years of experience in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal conditions, with a particular focus on sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, and joint reconstruction. A proud native of Southern California, Dr. Bast has devoted his career to serving the community where he was born and raised.

Dr. Bast’s path to medicine began on the athletic field. A two-sport All-American at Damien High School in La Verne, he was drafted by the California Angels in 1983 but chose instead to attend the University of Southern California on a dual scholarship for football and baseball. At USC, he played in the 1985 Rose Bowl Championship and earned All-Pac-10 honors in baseball before signing a professional contract with the Boston Red Sox. His career in professional baseball—and the experience of undergoing Tommy John elbow reconstruction—ultimately inspired his transition to orthopedics.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the USC Keck School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at LAC + USC Medical Center. Dr. Bast went on to complete a Sports Medicine fellowship at the world-renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic, where he contributed to the care of elite athletes from teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Dodgers, Kings, Ducks, and USC Trojans. He continued assisting in the care of the Lakers through 2016.

Dr. Bast has been in private practice in Covina, California for over two decades, and currently serves as the Medical Director of Sports Medicine and Orthopedics at The Coliseum at Casa Colina, as well as Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Casa Colina Hospital. He is also a member of Casa Colina’s Board of Directors and has previously held leadership roles at multiple surgical and medical centers throughout the Inland Empire.

Dr. Bast specializes in the treatment of athletic injuries involving the shoulder, elbow, and knee, and performs total joint replacements of the hip and knee. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS), and remains active in clinical research, education, and patient advocacy.
