Dr. Walter A. Thomas is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in sports medicine, arthroscopy, and general orthopaedics. Dr. Thomas earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Pacific Union College before completing his medical degree at Loma Linda University. He went on to complete his internship in general surgery, followed by residency and chief residency in orthopaedic surgery at Loma Linda University. He then advanced his training through a prestigious Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellowship at the University of California, San Diego, under the guidance of leaders in the field.

Dr. Thomas has served as an orthopaedic consultant and team physician for numerous professional, collegiate, and national athletic programs. His background includes serving as orthopaedic consultant for Team USA Water Polo and as associate team physician for the San Diego Padres, San Diego State University Football, San Diego Gulls Hockey, and the San Diego State Women’s Soccer Club, among others.

A Qualified Medical Examiner for the State of California, Dr. Thomas has surgical expertise in arthroscopy of all major joints, including arthroscopic rotator cuff and ACL reconstruction, cartilage repair, and total joint arthroplasty of the shoulder. He is committed to delivering individualized care that helps patients—from professional athletes to active individuals—return to peak function and quality of life.

Dr. Thomas maintains professional affiliations with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Western Orthopaedic Association. He holds hospital privileges at Westlake Specialty Surgery Center, Thousand Oaks Surgical Hospital, Los Robles Hospital, and Los Robles Surgical Center.
